The Ohio AIDS Coalition, in collaboration with the HIV CARE Services Section and the HIV/STD/AVH Prevention Program of the Ohio Department of Health and the Pennsylvania/Mid-Atlantic AIDS Education & Training Center (AETC), is pleased to announce our first combined World AIDS Day / Leadership Conference.

The Conference will be held November 16 -17, 2009 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Columbus.

The National Association of People With AIDS (NAPWA) will host a Regional Meeting & Dinner for people living with HIV/AIDS on Sunday, November 15, preceding the Conference.

The 2009 Conference participants will include community activists, social workers, health care providers, mental health professionals and other HIV prevention and care professionals, as well as people living with HIV/AIDS.  We plan to provide excellent multi-level education and training opportunities targeted to attendees with beginning-to-advanced levels of knowledge and skills. Continuing education credits will also be available.

72nd OAC Healing Weekend held at Bergamo Center: June 12-14

This OAC Healing Weekend, for HIV positive women, sought to improve the knowledge and understanding women have regarding their health and well-being. As a result, women will be better prepared to cope with issues that might interfere with adherence to their medical plan.

The Weekend was limited to women participants because HIV positive women face a unique combination of issues related to their gender and HIV status. Clinical services for women are comprehensive, but limited in range. Medical care alone does not address integral familial, social, community, and personal issues. Social support, community involvement, and healthy relationships are vital for the overall health and well-being of a woman.

Sisty HIV positive women from around Ohio attended the Healing Weekend.

OAC is currently planning our next Healing Weekend to be held October 23-25, 2009 at the Fountain Inn in Lakeside.  For more information, contact the OAC office at 1-800-226-5554.
